3 Perfect Wines For Valentine's Day

3 Perfect Wines For Valentine's Day

There's only one more week of January - can you believe that?? We're almost one month down of 2019. I should probably start working on my resolutions haha! And that also means that Valentine's Day is just around the corner, and will be here before we know it! Now you guys know me, and you know that I love wine. So I put together a list of some of my favorites that would be perfect for a romantic dinner, girls night, glass after the kids go down and you eat thai takeout - whatever the evening looks like for you, it will look better with a glass of one of these delicious wines in your hand!

Maryhill Winery, 2012 Serendipity

I've loved Maryhill's wines for a long time - we finally joined their wine club about a year ago (we should have joined sooner!) and always look forward to those shipments! They have tasting rooms in Goldendale, Spokane, and are just about to open a new tasting room in Vancouver this April! Definitely pay them a visit if you're in the area. I really love all of their wines, and the Serendipity is no exception. It's really smooth, and would pair well with whatever your Valentine's Day meal looks like! We drank it while eating my White Wine and Parmesan Risotto, and it was soooo delicious! It would also be amazing with a steak or pork. (When you order this wine, also grab a bottle of their rosé! It's my favorite!!)

Merry Cellars, 2016 Dolce Vita

Merry Cellars is our local winery in town - you probably see me mention them all the time on Instagram stories! We love their wine and hanging out in their tasting room in Pullman. I'm not usually a fan of dessert wines, but I looooove Dolce Vita. It's made from merlot that's co-fermented with blackberries, which makes for a really deep, jammy and fruity wine. Dolce Vita is really special, and would be the perfect Valentine's Day treat!

Yarden, 2008 Blanc de Blancs

No Valentine's Day wine list would be complete without a sparkling wine, am I right? This sparkling wine is so good - I love how bright, fresh and fruity it is! It would be perfect with light appetizers like a cheese plate or these smoked salmon appetizers, and would also be amazing for a brunch! If you're looking to pair this with your Valentine's Day dinner, I'd recommend it with my Lemon and Garlic Salmon, or a light chicken. And grab another bottle while you're at it, because I know you'll love the Blanc de Blancs as much as I do!

I hope you all find a new wine to love on this list - be sure to let me know if you try one and report back! And if you love wine, check out this recipe for Merlot Chocolate Truffles - they will blow your mind!!

Ginger Pear Champagne Fizz

Ginger Pear Champagne Fizz

Happy New Years Eve everyone!! One more day of 2018, we've got this!! I'm sharing a new cocktail with you today, to kick off New Years celebrations. This cocktail recipe was inspired by my love of fresh ginger, paired with sweet pear and of course - champagne! It wouldn't be a New Years Eve cocktail without champagne, right? And there is one extra ingredient in there - just a dash of gin! The herbiness of gin compliments the fresh ginger so well, I just had to add it in.

I love easy cocktail recipes. Especially if I'm hosting a dinner or cocktail party, I don't want to be busy mixing cocktails with no time to talk with my friends. Since I know a lot of you are celebrating tonight, I wanted to create a super simple, super quick and super DELICIOUS cocktail for you to share with loved ones as you ring in the new year! You can even mix this together and just top with champagne before serving. Done, done and done! Cheers, and happy New Year everyone!!

Makes 1 drink

Ginger Simple Syrup Ingredients (makes enough for 8 drinks):

3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup water
2 full fresh roots ginger, peeled and chopped

Ginger Simple Syrup Directions:

Combine the sugar, water and ginger in a small saucepan and bring to a boil uncovered on medium heat. Once a low boil is reached, lower the temperature and simmer until all the sugar is dissolved, stirring often. Simmer about 20-25 minutes, then remove from heat and strain out ginger. Allow to cool completely before using in your cocktails, and store in the fridge for up to 5 days.

Cocktail Ingredients:

1/2 oz gin (I use Bombay Sapphire)
1 oz pear juice, chilled
1 oz ginger simple syrup (recipe above)
3-4 oz champagne, chilled

Cocktail Directions:

Combine gin through champagne in a glass, stir, and serve! If you want to pre-mix, stir again before serving because the syrup will sink to the bottom of your container. Then top with champagne and enjoy!

Christmas Cardamom Mimosas

Christmas Cardamom Mimosas

I love many things about Christmas - the lights, the baked goods, the presents (duh!), but one of my very favorite things is my family's traditional Christmas morning brunch! This year I'm serving up some Christmas mimosas to accompany our morning festivities!

These are very similar to a traditional mimosa, but have one extra ingredient. Cardamom bitters! Cardamom pairs so deliciously with orange, and is perfect with the sweetness from the champagne. I love that these are so easy too - no need to break out any fancy cocktail shaking equipment for this Christmas cocktail!

Ingredients:

1/3 cup chilled champagne
1/3 cup orange juice
2-3 shakes cardamom bitters

Directions:

Combine all the ingredients in a champagne flute, stir gently and serve! Easy enough, right?

Warm & Creamy Pumpkin White Russians

Warm & Creamy Pumpkin White Russians

We're already a week into November (what!) and Thanksgiving is just two short weeks away! I've been working away at holiday recipes, and am so excited to share these pumpkin white russians with you today! They're creamy, pumpkin spicy, with just a hint of coffee from the Kahlua! Basically a spiked pumpkin spice latte - I mean what can be wrong about that??

In our family we like to take our time on Thanksgiving, enjoying conversation and catching up with each other for a while before actually sitting down for dinner. When I started working on this holiday cocktail, I was imagining how delicious these would taste while we nibble on some appetizers like these mini savory apple pies that I shared last week!

Ingredients:

(Makes one drink)

2 oz Vodka
1 oz Kahlua or Baileys
1 oz heavy cream
1 1/2 tablespoons canned pumpkin puree
2 teaspoons pumpkin spice (with any leftovers you can make pumpkin spice latte cupcakes!)

Directions:

Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker half full of ice, and shake well to combine. Serve over ice, and garnish with a little more pumpkin spice or cardamom if you'd like!
